My Nautical Journey

AN OCEAN OF INSPIRATION

Deciding to create a blog was a rash and beautiful decision.  One moment I had pdf files fluttering through my mind and then next I was boldly signing up for Blogger.  I love the idea of organizing this information in such a public way and with the increased ease of adding multimedia sources.

The title "Stern to the Stars" appeared from my subconscious at just the right stroke of need; the cursor was blinking in the box that said "Title" and I wanted it to mean something.  (Of course I could have changed it, but I wanted to start out strong.

I have hardly had the chance to include one of my most memorable adventures in experiential learning: a 3-month global voyage in college aboard the MV Explorer with Semester at Sea.  I can't imagine ever providing an experience for my students quite like the one I had with SAS, but I can try to harness the energy of the visionaries who provided and created it.

A classroom that doesn't acknowledge, celebrate and work with differences and disabilities might often end up with the students who embody these differences and disabilities stagnantly taking up residence in the back row.

While on the MV Explorer, the only time you could see the bow, or front of the ship, was looking through the windows from the bridge (Captain's command room) on a special tour.  Everyone had full-24-hour access to the back of the ship, or stern.  The theme of this packet is accessibility, so it makes sense to me to steer toward success from the place where everyone is included.
